Investigation of Laser Surface Melting Process for Al-25Si Alloy

In this paper, the effects of laser surface melting process on the microstructure and property of A1·25Si casting alloy which had been modified by adding misch metal were investigated under different scanning rate.The results show that the microstructure of A1·25Si alloy are mAlnly consisted of three zones with different characteristics of regional components by laser surface melting treated.They are melted zone, transition zone and substrate zone from surface respectively.ln the melted zone, the microstructure is refined and the morphology of the primary Si phase is changed significantly.The grow direction of the dendrite is perpendicular to the interface between the substrate zone and the melted zone.With increasing of scanning rate, the gas holes are smaller, while the hardness of melted zone increases.Under the same scanning rate, the microhardness is maximum in the melted zone, smallest in substrate and range between the above two in the transition zone of which microhardness distributes inhomogeneously.
