Effect of C2Cl6 and Ca Addition for Preventing to the Surface Oxidation of Molten Magnesium

In this study, the effect of C2CI6 and Ca addition for preventing to the surface oxidation of molten magnesium was investigated. In order to confirm the protective surface characteristic of molten magnesium by them, we added into molten AM100A alloy at 700℃ and then the melts were slowly cooled in Alr. Effect of the protective molten surface by adding them was more increase than only using Ar gas. These results are due to the formation of the compact oxide films over molten surface by adding them.
