Simulation analysis of influence factors for the production of carbon nanotubes using chemical vapor deposition
Introduction Carbon nanotubes (CNT) are unique nanostructured materials composed of single or multiple rolled graphene sheets 1. Individual isolated CNTs are expected to become fundamental elements in the construction of nanoscale devices 2 CVD is an excellent technique for the synthesis of high-purity individual or self-assembled arrays of CNTs. Various carbon containing molecules can be broken by the combined action of temperature and a proper metal catalyst (either floated or supported) to yield their carbon atoms for the formation of nanotubes. The important parameters which influence the growth process of nanotubes are quality of catalyst coating, ratio of source to reducing gas. The flow rate of carrier gas. Deposition temperature and time These parameters can vary throughout the CVD reactor and make complicated effect to the growth process of CNTs. Reaction mechanism of the production of CNTs using CVD method was investigated using computational fluid dynamics(CFD) simulation with multi-step reaction.
