Grafting of polymer chains from the clay surface
Polymer brashes on the surface of clay layers were prepared by in situ polymerization. Polystyrene (PS) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) mixed polymer brashes, and PS and poly(2(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) mixed polymer brashes were synthesized by using in situ free radical polymerization. PS, PMMA, poly(butyl acrylate), and poly(styrene-block-butylacrylate) block copolymer brashes were synthesized by in situ atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Poly(Llactide) comb polymers on the surface of clay layers were prepared by a combination of ATRP and ringopening polymerization.
