Nano-hardness and Dynamic Nano-mechanical Properties of Cartilage in Water

INTRODUCTION Biological materials are anisotropic in the microstructure, and there are many testing techniques on the mechanical behavior. However, there are usually many difficulties during the measure process of their mechanical properties, such as small size, light weight, hardness in finding location. In recent years, with the fast development of the nanomechanical testing technology, a new type of material testing instruments, nanoindentation, has been manufactured to measure the mechanical properties of biological materials. There are many advantages such as small size, high spatial resolution, no special requirements about the size, shape and loseless of the samples. At present, it has become a powerful tool to measure the mechanical properties of biological and related materials in micro-structure.
