Research and development on heat storage by nanocomposite-enhanced phase change materials

INTRODUCTION With the developments of nanotechnology, adding nano-materials to improve the thermal performance of traditional phase change materials (PCMs) have widely been studied 1-4. Using a concept of nanofluids enhancing the heat transfer performance to develop nanocomposite-enhanced phase change materials (NEPCMs) is feasible. This study focused on the phase change of paraffin wax with adding multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNTs). Experiments of thermal energy charge and discharge were conducted to investigate the influences of the addition of MWCNTs to the paraffin wax on phase change temperature, thermal storage, and heat transfer performance.
