Effects of organoclay on the mechanical properties of sbr compounds filled with carbon black and silica
INTRODUCTION The silicate in the plate-like structure has an aspect ratio of over 100, along with a layer thickness of 1 nm and side length of 100~1000 nm1. When these layered silicates are distributed to each layer, they tend to have a large specific surface area. A high level of reinforcement can be obtained from a small amount of silicates because of these characteristics. Jia et. Al.2 reported very high reinforcing effect of organoclay in natural rubber (NR)/carbon black (CB)/organoclay compounds. Tensile strength, 100% modulus and elongation at break point of styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) nanocomposite containing 20 phr CB and 10 phr orgnaoclay are shown higher values than those of SBR/CB compound 3.
