Poly(adipic acid-hexamethylene diamine)-functionalized Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes Wafers

INTRODUCTION Poly(adipic acid-hexamethylene diamine)(PA66) is an important commercial semi-crystalline polymer. It is widely used as engineering plastic, fibers, and films etc. The modulus of PA66 is relative low; however, attempts have been made to improve the mechanical properties. A series of PA66/MWNT films were fabricated by mixing amino multi-walled carbon nanotubes (AMWNT) with PA66 in formic acid; and poured onto glass plates 1. After being vacuum-dried for 24 h at 80 ℃, the films were subsequently compression molded between Teflon sheets at 280℃. The film containing 0.5 wt% AMWNTs showed an improvement of~43% in maximum tensile stress and~32% in Youngs modulus over pristine PA66 film. PA66-functionalized carboxylic multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CMWNTs) were fabricated at 260-270 ℃ in our previous report 2.
