Predicting Nucleosome Positioning based on DNA Sequence
The genomic DNA in eukaryotic nucleus is packaged into nucleosomes that are the basic repeating units of eukaryotic chromatin. Each nucleosome contains approximately 146 base-pair (bp) genomic DNA that is wrapped in 1.75 turns around a histone octamer. Two neighboring nucleosomes are joined by a stretch of around 20-80 bp free DNA termed linker DNA. Nucleosomes not only play a basic structural role, but also participate in regulation of diverse processes of life, including replication, transcription, DNA repair, and etc.
