10-bp periodicity as an indicator of nucleosome position
In this study, fast Fourier transformation (FFT) was used to directly detect 10-bp periodicity of AA-TTAT/GC in the human genome. We demonstrated that the 10-bp periodicity signal decreases near transcription start sites (TSSs), which correspond to nucleosome free regions (NFR). Moreover, the 10-bp periodicity signal in promoters negatively correlates with gene expression levels. The results indicate that 10-bp periodicity is closely associated with nucleosome positioning and can be an indicator of the presence of nucleosomes.
