VeryGene: a database linking tissue specific genes to diseases, drugs and beyond
Introduction The tissue-specific genes (TSGs) are a group of genes whose expression and function are selective in one or several tissues/cell types. Many human diseases are found associated with disordered TSGs. Identification of these genes helps us better understand tissue-gene relationship, etiology and discover novel tissuespecific drug targets. However, the links between TSGs, diseases and potential therapeutic agents are often missing, hidden or too scattered to find. There is a need to establish a data source for researchers to retrieve and to share such and additional information in order to speed up discovery and clinical practice. VeryGene database (http://www.vervgene.com) was developed to fill this gap.
