CLINICAL TRIAL ON A NEW CHINESE HERBAL COMPOUND ON TREATING DIARRHEA IN CALVES

This clinical trial aimed to compare the therapeutic efficacy of Chinese herbal compound on diarrhea in calves. The calves presenting diarrhea were divided into two groups of Heat Pattern and Cold Pattern, which were separately treated with Relijing and Hanlining. Herbal treatments were compared with the traditional medication of Mequindox (MEQ) which is a synthetic quinoxaline 1,4-dioxides (QdNOs) derivative and is commonly used for treating diarrhea in calves in China. The result showed the curative rate of Relijing for treating Heat Pattern diarrhea in calves was 83.6％, and its effective rate was 96.4％. These results were significantly better than Mequindox (P <0.01). On the other hand, Hanlining was less effective treating Cold Pattern diarrhea than Mequindox (P<0.05).
