EFFECT OF TOTAL SAPONIN OF PANAX GINSENG (RENSHEN) AND ITS DERIVATIVE ON MOUSE IMMUNOCYTES
This study was designed to investigate the effect of Total Saponin of Panax Ginseng (TSPG) and its derivative on related immunocytes in vitro. The cytotoxicity of TSPG or derivative against splenocytes in vitro, and proliferation of T and B lymphocytes induced by ConA or LPS were determined by MTT assay. NK cell competence was determined using lactate dehydrogenase approach. The data showed that the cytotoxicity of TSPG against mouse splenocytes increased when TSPG concentration increased, but the cytotoxicity of TSPG derivative against mouse splenocytes decreased when the derivative concentration increased. Proliferation of T and B lymphocytes were significantly promoted by the derivative plus ConA or LPS. Thus, we concluded that the cytotoxicity of the derivative was weak against mouse immunocytes, and the derivative can significantly improve related immunocyte competence.
