A NEW THOUGHT ON TOXIC EVENTS OF CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF COMPLEXITY SCIENCE
After much analysis of the events related to Xiao Chai Hu Tang in Japan and aristolochic acid in Belgium, etc. from the perspective of complexity science, it was thought that the curative effect and toxicity of one medicine is not only dependent upon its ingredients, but is also dependent upon its dosage and usage, etc. Bian Zheng Shi Zhi (Zheng Differentiation and Treatment) is not only the advantage and characteristic of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), but also the accumulation mode for Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM) experiences, especially from the perspective of complexity science. Therefore, we should attach importance to the toxicity and adverse reactions of CHM; however, the discussion should include medicine and not be limited just its ingredients of herbal medicine.
