HOW TO TREAT MEGAESOPHAGUS, MEGACOLON
Megaesophagus is a primary or secondary disorder of the esophagus with neuromuscular dysfunction. The congenital idiopathic disorder is uncommon and its pathogenesis is poorly understood. In adult animals, acquired or idiopathic lesions are more common. Esophageal motility is absent or decreased so that food, including liquid, is accumulated in the esophagus. In relationship to nerve dysfunction, one or more lesions may appear on nerves, including afferent nerve, brain stem, vagus nerve, efferent nerve and myoneural junction, which may result in esophageal hypomotility and distention.
