Combined 2D electrical imaging lines into 3D model for detection shallow buried cavities on Kangar,Perlis, Malaysia
An electrical imaging survey lines were conducted at Bintong primary school field in Kangar, Perlis area (northernmost state of Peninsular Malaysia) to map the buried cavities. Twelve parallel 2D electrical imaging profiles with ABEM SAS4000 multi-electrode system using Wenner-P array were measured. Each line is 60 m long and consists of 41 electrodes positions with 1.5 m spacing. The spacing between these lines is 5 m. These lines were then combined into a 3D data set that was then processed to produce a 3D electrical imaging model to give more information of the subsurface. Ground subsidence occurred during the construction of the school indicating the presence of subsurface cavities. Subsurface cavities are common problem in this area. Hence, integration of 3D electrical imaging surveys allowed us to better identify the buried cavities. The general results of the survey show that the anomalies determined which the subsurface cavities in the 2D surveys and the 3D model are at the same positions.
