Study of geoelectrical features by using frequency electromagnetic survey at a mining abandoned site
In the study the frequency Electromagnetic method (EM) is carried out to investigate the geoelectrical features at an abandoned mine site. The study detects the extent and spreading of groundwater and soil contaminations, and locates possible pollution pathways and the buried underground tanks. Based on the analysis of electrical conductivity of the survey area, the geophysical anomaly zones are delineated. According to the result the survey area can be divided into 3 zones from south to north: contaminated area, transient area and untouched area, and three groundwater tanks are located. The measurement is beneficial to help waste management processes and to determine possible locations of monitoring wells in the survey area in the future. The study shows that the frequency EM technique is sensitive to the conductive layers, is able to measure the difference of physical properties involving groundwater and is quite suitable for providing a means for the environmental monitoring with high accuracy.
