Photo-oxidation on the Performance of Modified Asphalt

In terms of asphalt, evaporation, oxidation, decomposition, polymerization and other physical chemical changes will happen at high temperatures and the role of oxygen. The main factors that induce asphalt aging and degradation of asphalt pavement performance are sun light and oxygen. This paper selected three kinds of modified asphalt used Sasobit, SBS, and rubber powder respectively, to analyze the evolution rule of modified asphalt road performance under the action of optical oxygen aging effect, through asphalt routine tests, SHRP dynamic shear and bending tests, infrared spectroscopy and other research tools. The results show that: different modified bitumen has different capacities of anti-photo-oxidation; after aging, the lightweight components of asphalt decrease and asphaltenes increase; asphalt viscosity is increased, temperature sensitivity is reduced, high temperature stability is enhanced, low temperature crack resistance is reduced, the anti-rutting ability is enhanced, the anti-deformation ability is diminished. The results provide evidence for the selection of high-grade asphalt pavement on high-radiation areas.
