An Empirical Comparison of Characteristics of Urban Economic Development Stage

Chinas GDP growth is always a bright spot in the world economy, and the Chinese Government has proposed a 2010 GDP growth target of 8% commitment, GDP growth will still be a focus of attention. So for a single city, what factors will affect its GDP growth, whats the relationship between them. This paper use the economics production function model which is widely used, and select two representative cities: Beijing and Hefei, take the economic growth data, to make empirical analysis and comparison of these issues. The empirical results show that Labor-intensive industriesc promotes the GDP growth in less developed cities in the middle or western of China. The government expenditure is always take a very important part in the GDP growth. The more developed the city is, the higher its input-output ratio of private investment is, so less developed cities should focus on improving the investment environment to attract and guide private investment either.
