Measuring the value of life of migrant workers in the construction industry
The value of life generally contains spiritual value, health value and wealth value. From a generalized perspective, value of life includes social value, business value, family value and individual value. In a narrow sense, however, it refers to individual value, containing only personal spiritual value, health value and wealth value. This paper describes the results of a study on the narrow value of life, and designs the structure chart of the value of life. Based on the measuring principle of the value of life, the paper constructs the compensation model of the value of life from the perspective of compensation. Then 11 dead were selected, and their family and work team members participated in the questionnaire and interview survey. Taking into account of the influence of regional economy, the research analyzes the survey findings through the compensation model of the value of life and finds that the value of migrant workers life arrives at 1,173,789 Yuan. Then the singlefactor sensitivity analysis of the value of life finds that the social discount rate and the wage growth rate have significant influence on the value of life inferring the basic data used in the model is conservative, which means the value of migrant workers life is underestimated. The paper then recommends that the reference value of migrant workers life should be in the range of 1,173,788 Yuan to 1,671,429 Yuan.
