Physical Filling Effect of Aggregate Micro Fines with Different Iithologic Characters

Aggregate micro fines (AMF) may improve performances of concrete if they are used as mineral admixture, but the mechanisms need be studied. By measuring wet packing density of mixtures of AMF and cement with different proportions, their compactness was calculated. The outflow times of mixture pastes were tested by the method of Marsh tone and their variation regular is the same as compactnesss. Thus physical filling effect of AMF as admixture may be explained with effect of AMF on compactness of cement. The results show that the best filling proportions are: limestone powder: 10 percent, quartzite powder: 5 percent and granitic powder: 5 percent. It is important guiding meaning for the determination of mixing proportion for AMF to be used as admixture in concrete.
