Manufacturing Building Materials by Carbonating Steel Slag Mixed with Portland Cement
Several mixes were designed to manufacture building materials using of the steel slag mixed with Portland cement. And by carbonation curing, the experimental temperature and CO2 pressure were 74 °C and 0.15MPa. XRD and SEM analysis showed that some calcium carbonate crystals appeared on the surface of samples. And thermodynamics analysis indicated that samples were sensitive to carbonation. The rate of carbonation reaction is controlled by the process of CO2 dissolution, and the spontaneous sequence of the carbonation reaction for different minerals is C3S>Ca0>C2S>Mg0. After 2 h, weight increase degree of carbonated sample which under the mix proportion of steel slag: cement=3:2 was 10.44%, compressive strength was 20.06 MPa, f-CaO content fell from 3.25% to 0.34%, and soundness was eligible.
