Evaluation of Telechelic Polymer Microcrystal Materials for Performance of In-situ Toughening Concrete
The siloxane-terminated telechelic polymer microcrystal materials were synthesized by a combination of interfacial polymerization and sol-gel process with the purpose of improving toughness of concrete structures. Polymer molecule grew up on an aqueous/liquid interface to form a kind of crystal structure with high orientation degree during the preparation process. The surface layers of polymer molecule were modified by siloxane telechelic oligomer. The influence of telechelic polymer microcrystal materials on workability and mechanical performance of concrete were studied experimentally. The morphology of microcrystal materials and microstructure of hardened concrete were observed by scan electron microscope (SEM). The results show that concrete toughness have been greatly improved by polymer microcrystal materials. 7d fracture energy ratios of concrete increase by 56.4%. The siloxaneterminated telechelic polymer microcrystal materials toughen concrete up by in-situ effect, which take place because of Chemical interaction and Intercalation between polymers and calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) inorganic sheets due to the presence of siloxane groups and filling up the internal pore of concrete with polymer microcrystal physically and chemically.
