Numerical Simulation of a Planar-Electrostatic Wiggler Field Distribution and Modulation on Relativistic Electrons
In this paper a planar electrostatic wiggler is studied by making use of the Computer Simulation Technology (CST) software, where the wiggler is performed by two parallel metallic plates: the superplate being corrugated with sinusoidal ripples and connected to a negative voltage; the sub-plate being smooth and grounded. Simulation results confirm that a planar electrostatic wiggler has sine-function field distribution along the axial distance. Necessity of compensation by adding a transverse magnetic field is demonstrated when it is used to modulate the motion of relativistic electrons.
