Experimental Study on the Length of the Slug Unit in Cryogenic Upward Inclined Tube
An experimental study was carried out to understand the phenomena of the boiling flow of liquid nitrogen in an inclined tube with closed bottom. The length of the slug unit was studied in different axial position of the inclined tube by using a high speed motion analyzer. Statistical method was employed to analyze the data of the slug unit length. The results showed that the length of the slug unit was increasing with increasing x/D. At given x/D, the length of the slug unit increased first, and then decreased with inclined angle decreased, maximum at 60°. The standard deviation increased with x/D at all inclined angles. Above results showed that the slug unit length was more inhomogeneous with increased x/D, and the Taylor bubbles were easier to coalescence with inclined angle decreased, but coalescence lessening at 45°. These conclusions provide a basis for the further study of cryogenic slug flow.
