Investigation on the Influence of Ground Surface Condition on the Urban-scale Dispersion of Wind-blown Particles
Based on recent knowledge concerning the vertical structure of turbulence within the roughness sublayer the problem of particle dispersion is studied. A parameterizations is proposed and two types of simulations are presented here: one, called urban, takes into account the roughness sublayers turbulence structures ,while the other, nonurban, does not. Using a Lagranigan stochastic particle dispersion model urbanand non-urban simulations are compared for different source configurations. It is found the neglecting the roughness sublayer results in the large errors for low source heights and conditions of mechanically dominated turbulence. This is of particular importance due to the fact that urban surfaces tend to increase the mechanical portion of turbulence and, in addition, low sources, such as port dumped particles, are predominant in urban environments. The numerical investigation was also found the mine heavy particles are easily agglomerating , so, its pollution is of mainly shortdistance, local-area characteristics.
