Numerical analysis of thermal insulation in a cold box of cold neutron source system
The characteristics of coupled heat transfer and thermal insulation in a cold box of the Cold Neutron Source system (CNS) are investigated by the numerical simulation. Different thermal insulation projects are designed and compared. The influences of construction, temperature and material property on the coupled heat transfer and the thermal insulation are analyzed. The numerical results indicate that the screen with aluminum foil is more suitable for the thermal insulation of low temperature devices. The cold losses from the coupled heat transfer is reduced from 1522.8 W to be smaller than 160 W, and the exergy efficiency of helium cycle is increased from 9.41% to 12.2% using improved thermal insulation method.
