A General Review on Citrus Huanglongbing

Citrus huanglongbing (HLB), the citrus yellow shoot disease, has caused serious damage for a long time in citrus industry in the Mainland of China, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Africa. Moreover, the occurrence of HLB was found in Sandi Arabia and Yemen in 1986, in Papua New Guinea in 2002, in Brazil in 2004, in Florida in 2005 and in Cuba in 2007. Since late 1990s, the population of its psyllids vector Diaphorina citri was found in Argentina, Venezuela, Jamaica, Mexico, Texas, California, Iran and some other areas in Caribbean Sea. HLB is a damaging or threatening agent occurring in nearly all of the citrus producing areas in the world. The disease has different names such as huanglongbing in the Mainland of China, likubin in Taiwan, greening in South Africa, die-back in India, vein phloem degeneration in Indonesia, and leaf mottling in the Philippines. Because the graft transmissibility and virus nature was first identified in Guangdong, China, huanglongbing has been used as a uniform name for the disease since 1995. Additional index words.
