Phenology and Juice Quality of Dalan Dan Grapefruit in Corrientes, Argentina
The Dalan Dan is a type of grapefruitlike plant (Citrus sp.), the source of germplasm is Accession NC678 in the Campinas Citrus Germplasm Collection (Centro APTA Citrus Sylvio Moreira, Cordeiropolis, SP, Brazil) and Accession CCC-618 Dalan Dan in the Argentina Citrus Germplasm Collection at INTA Concordia, Entre Ríos, Argentina. Dalan Dan is planted in Misiones, Argentina, due to its excellent field resistance to citrus canker. Our objective was to characterize the phenology and juice quality of Dalan Dan on two rootstock in the Province of Corrientes, Argentina. A 60-trees grove was planted in Bella Vista, Corrientes, in 2003 with trees from INTA Montecarlo (Misiones, Arg.)grafted on two rootstocks, Carrizo Citrange and Troyer Citrange Citrus sinensis (L.)Osb. x Poncirus trifoliata (L.)Ref. , in two replicates per rootstock, 15 trees per plot. Phenology was recorded in 10 randomly selected twigs per plot every two weeks; the percentage of new shoots and flowers was observed. Flowering was in the first half of August and two peaks of new shoots was observed in August and September. Ten fruits per plot were sampled twice per year in 2006 and 2007 and every two weeks since March in 2008. Juice quality components were assessed. Total soluble solids (TSS) , total acidity (TA) , relative level of TSS (°Brix) , ratio TSS;TA, and juice content in percentage were determined. Values of TA were 1. 1 to 1.4; °Brix 8. 2 to 11. 7; ratio; 6. 8 to 9. 5; and juice content 39％ to 45％. The data indicate that the Dalan Dan fruits on both rootstocks, in Corrientes, are acceptable for processing, marketable as fresh fruit, and similar to values reached in other zones of Argentina. Both rootstocks gave good fruit quality.
