An Investigation of Homologous and Non-homologous Somatic Pairing by Interchromosomal Chromatin Connectives in Citrus ichangensis

Based on interchromosomal chromatin connectives by Giemsa staining technique, a statistical analysis of homologous and non-homologous chromosomal pairing was made on mitosis metaphase chromosomes of 7 accessions in Citrus ichangensis (2n=18 ). The results showed that incidence of interchromosomal pairing connectives at mitotic metaphase observed varied from 27.1% to 40.2% (mean 30.5%) with prominent two chromosomal connectives (78.9%)as well as three, four and five chromosomal connectives respectively. The great majority of connectives involve telosynapsis with 2-5 chromosomes, and some with telomeric and centromeric. It is suggested that similar DNA is involved in both homologous and non-homologous chromosomal pairing.
