Dongjiang Citrus succosa Hort. ex Tanaka, A New Mandarin Selection of Seedling Mutation
Bendizao mandarin, Citrus succosa Hort. ex Tanaka is a famous citrus variety in China, which has some disadvantage such as seedy, fruit peel is coarseness, autumn is later, quality is affected by growth condition easily, etc. Dongjiang Citrus succosa Hort. ex Tanaka is a clone from a seeding sprout mutation of nucellar line, which is observed and breed since 1993, its Vigor is medium, tree form is slightly spreading, foliage branch is bushy, leaf is rhomboid semblable, fruit is oblate in shape, average simple fruit weight is 58 -75 g, rind is yellowish orange, thin, slick and easy to peel, the pulp is orange red, juicy, fibreless, the total soluble solids (TSS) is 12.1％ , total acid is 0.72％ , the esculent rate is about 77.9％. The average number of seeds per fruit is 0.6. The fruit harvest time is in early November which is earlier 7 - 10d than common Bendizao Citrus succosa Hort. ex Tanaka, per hectare yield is over 22.5 tons which is high about 7％ than check variety. Its condign rootstock is Goutoucheng, Citrus aurantium Linn.. As a whole, Dongjiang Citrus succosa Hort. ex Tanaka is better than common Bendizao in fruitfulness, TSS of fruit is increaser, flesh crisp and tender, juicy and melting with rich flavor, seed is decreasing obviously, the autumn is earlier. Dongjiang Bendizao is an improved obviously the general economic characters of Citrus succosa Hort. ex Tanaka.
