Characterization of Citrus Conserved EST Orthologs
In a continuous effort to improve the marker distribution and genome coverage, as well as to increase the density of the citrus EST-SSR maps, citrus unigenes were aligned with Arabidopsis and rice chromosome sequences. More than 5 000 conserved citrus unigenes were identified and categorized. These selected single-copy, conserved EST markers are helpful to improve the map coverage and evenness. In addition, physical integration of the markers into the BAC contigs of sweet orange was initiated using the marker-derived overgo probes. So far, two allelic contigs at every heterozygous locus have been successfully identified; each allele is associated with one contig.
