Effects of Aluminum on Leaf Water Relation and Nutritional Elements of Citrus Seedlings
Nine-weeks-old Cleopatra tangerine (Citrus reshni Hort. ex Tanaka) seedlings were fertigated daily for 8 weeks with 1/4 strength Hoagland nutrient solution containing 0 (control) or 2 mmol/L A12(SO4)3 ? 18H2O. The objective is to determine how leaf water relation and mineral nutrients of citrus seedlings respond to high aluminum (Al). Both leaf transpiration rate and water-use efficiency (WUE) decreased in response to Al, whereas leaf relative water content (RWC) showed non-significant change. Aluminum increased Al and Na contents and decreased P, K, Mg, Cu, Zn and Mo contents, but did not affect N, Ca, Fe, Mn and B contents in citrus seedling leaves. Generally, Al ecreased nutrient contents of citrus seedling leaves.
