Studies on the Peel Puffiness and Storage of Mature Fruit in Satsuma Mandarin
The relationship between fruit size and peel puffy condition was studied by investigating completely mature fruit of early Satsuma mandarin, the result revealed that the bigger the fruit was, the more serious puffiness was. The studies found that the fruit weight loss was alleviated by applying Prochloraz before storage, but the effect on preventing decay was different. The fruit decay rate of puffy fruit was higher than non-peel puffing ones, the fruit weight loss rate of puffy fruit was lower than non puffy ones. Not only the fruit peel puffing rate but also the fruit decay rate during the storage were alleviated by appying Calcium fertilizer, which possessed the same effect as Prochloraz did in fruit storage. According to our research, the 2L grade fruit with diameters over 66 millimeters should be harvested as early as possible; the fruit with diameters less than 55 millimeters were more favorable for delayed harvest; the average and small size fruits should be selected to be stored after being picked and the storage time should not exceed 40 days.
