Surveying Rumple Disorder in a Seven-year-old Lemon Orchard in Turkey

Rumple of lemon trees Citrus limon (L.)Burm. f. , a disorder with unknown casual reagent, causes abnormal fruit shape and color; therefore, reduces market value in lemon producing countries. A seven year-old Kutdiken lemon orchard with 505 trees was visually surveyed for three years, 2005, 2006, and 2007, by recording presence or absence rumple symptoms and yield by two independent researchers in November. Five lemon trees indicated rumple for successive three years, 18 trees had for two years, and 48 trees showed rumple for one year. Distribution of trees showing rumple disorder was as follows; 2007, 58 (11% ); 2006, 24 (5%); and 2005, 24 (5% ). There are significant correlations (r) between years for occurrence of rumple as follows: 2005 - 2006, r=0.31; 2005 - 2007, r=0. 20; 2006-2007, r=0. 33 (P < 0.0001). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) indicated that four rumple levels (no-rumple, one, two, three year of occurrences) significantly differed for soil calcareous (P=0.02) and soil pH (0.08). The other soil properties (organic matter, potassium, phosphorous, salt content) did not differ at alpha 0.05.
