Sustainable Hydropower Development-the EDF Experience

Hydropower is known as the worlds most important source of renewable energy, one of the main issues its development faces today is sustainability. The people I met and responsibilities I assumed led me to where I am today, Sustainable Development senior vice president of EDF group- first via the Durance - Verdon hydropower cascade in Provence and then at a national level as senior vice president of Hydropower and Renewable Energy. In the Durance valley, I understood that the constant search for balance between impacts and benefits is what contributes to sustainability. Indeed, hydropower is not just another industrial activity. Because it changes and shapes a territory in the long run, it bears tremendous responsibility.
