Itaipu Binational: Committed to Hydropower Generation with Environmental and Social Responsibility
Good morning! Im very happy to be here. First of all, Im sorry, because my English is not good and I dont know Chinese. So I have to speak Portuguese today. Id like to thank the sponsor for convening representatives from so many countries here to discuss such an important issue. I also give my congratulations to China for having built such a huge TGP dam. The TGP dam is the brother power plant of our Itaipu Hydropower Plant that is located in the La Plata Basin. The La Plata Basin, including the Parana Basin, is one of the largest basins in the world, in which 42 power plants were built. It covers a large area. Brazil has 12% of the total water resource in the globe, while Paraguay has the most water availability per capita in the world. These two countries jointly built the Itaipu Hydropower Plant. Here is the basic information of the power plant. The total storage capacity stands at 190,000 cubic hectares and the average flow rate is 11,907 m3/s.
