Partnering in Americas Sustainable Rivers

Zaoshang Hao! I would like to say thank you for first, inviting me here to speak, and secondly, for hosting me and my family while here. I must say that I am a bit nervous, I have two people in the audience, Dr. Hickey and Dr. Galloway, who are actually grading my presentation. And I have my family in the audience, who always grade my presentations. I think what you will find over the next twenty or so minutes, it that we are in violent agreement. Im going to wait to see how that translates, because that might not translate very well! We a-gree very much. I dont know that I will present anything new in concept. But I will try to share a little bit with you about our organization, frankly your organization, the Corps of Engineers, talk a little bit about our thoughts, some new thoughts, on how we invest in watersheds in the future. And Ill introduce it by saying its a fundamental shift away from point by point projects to watersheds and basins as systems. This will be difficult for us, but we are going to try. And then finally I will show you just a couple of slides on one of the projects that I have had experience with as the commander of the Los Angeles district of the Corps of Engineers under the sustainable rivers program with the nature conservancy. So with that, lets go.
