Reflections on the Three Gorges Project and the Yangtze Rivers Water Security
With the development of society and economy, the Yangtze river is confronted with the serious water issue as flood, drought, water pollution and river ecological environment. As the control water - power engineering, the Three Gorges Project will bring huge advantaged influence on water security for middle and lower Yangtze River. Benefit of Three Gorges Project is realized on follows approach: the unite flood control with reservoirs including Three Gorges Project and the upstream water - power project, combining operation of embankment and store floodwater area, can solve the pre-issue on flood control; serious trend of waterless, water pollution and river ecological environment can be lighten through the utilizable regulation and Emergency regulation; as the strategic reserve water source of the North China area, the Three Gorges reservoir, will supply water to the North China area across the median line of the South-to-North water diversion project, enhances that areas water security* Three Gorges Project may ensure the Yangtze Rivers Virtual Water trade.
