Analysis on Characteristics of Water Quality and Sediment Change of Three Gorges Project During Initial Storing Stage
The water quality and sediment change of the upper reaches of Yangtze River is the result of comprehensive function of both natural and human being elements of the river basin. The integrative benefits such as flood control, electricity generation and shipping have primarily emerged since 2003 when Three Gorges Reservoir started its storage function. The statistical analysis of the gauging data of water quality and sediment these years have shown the results as follows: there were no obvious change of the water quality classification or the nutrient salt level at the initial stage of Three Gorges Project water storage, and the reservoir water quality can meet with the function of the water body; the inflow sediment of Three Gorges reservoir has shown a trend which is decreasing year by year, and the sediment situation of the reservoir is better than anticipated.
