Valley Control by Short and Long Time Forecasting Managing the Plants for Profitability and Environment
The Power Plant operation has become an every day challenge to comply with the Environmental commitments, achieve a cost effective performance and a competitive position> benefit from the most profitable opportunities available from the power market and thus, fulfil the investors expectations. The Valley Management software tool is therefore essential to schedule the Hydroelectric Power Plants Complex and predict the results on both environmental and economical grounds. The Valley Management tool includes Short-Term and Long-Term Forecasting applications to define the power generation scheduling of each Power Plant by optimizing the use of the hydraulic resources available during the next two days or the coming year respectively in strict compliance with the environmental commitments. The applications will be executed by taking into account the proposed active power scheduling, the unavailability of the Plants units and gates for maintenance or rehabilitation, the hydraulic data namely the initial water levels, the water inflows (of each reservoir and tributary) and losses due to evaporation or else, the river flows limits, etc. The applications will provide results on the feasibility of the proposed power scheduling and any adjustment deemed to be necessary, the environmental constraints with indication of any difficulty to achieve the flow or level limits on both upstream and downstream sides of the rivers, etc. Over the simulated period, data are provided on variation of the reservoirs water level, active power output of each Power Plant, water spillage resulting from floods and water flow of each river.
