Constitutive Modelling Framework of Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical Coupling for Unsaturated Clays
This paper introduces an unconventional constitutive model for unsaturated soil, which is able to describe the behaviour of unsaturated clays under the coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical actions. The proposed model is based on two existing models: one for the hydro-mechanical behaviour of unsaturated clays and the other for the thermomechanical behaviour of saturated clays. The selections of stress state variables are discussed, which pointed out that temperature, as well as the generalized effective stress and the modified suction, is required to construct the constructive model of unsaturated clays in non-isothermal conditions. After that, a simple model considering temperature effect for isotropic stress states is developed.
