Laboratory Study on Seepage Properties of Lightweight Soil Mixed with Polystyrene Based on Time and Temperature
Lightweight soil mixed with polystyrene (LSM-EPS) is a new type of geo-materials, the study of its seepage properties can not be found easily in published literatures. In the paper, it was studied by laboratory seepage tests based on varied time and temperature. The seepage coefficient of LSM-EPS decreases with increasing of time and decreasing of temperature, but the degree of decreasing varies with mixture ratio. The test results indicated that the seepage coefficient and curing age have a power function relationship and the seepage coefficient and temperature have a multinomial function relationship. In consideration of the relationship of seepage coefficient, curing age and temperature, it can obtain a multi-regression equation, which can utilize in guiding the practical application. The meaning of the study is to give scientific data for using LSM-EPS as embankment materials in coast construction and other engineering projects.
