Experimental Study on Moisture Transmission of Compacted Laterite Soil under Temperature Effect
One of the primary factors affecting the strength of subgrade is water whose transmission depends on the environmental factors. To investigate mechanism of water transfer in subgrade under the influence of atmospheric temperature, a coupled heatmoisture apparatus was self-designed based on previous research. By using it, specimens of three different water contents and dry density were subjected to tests. Test results indicate that the magnitude of water transfer is controlled by initial dry density and water content. The higher the initial dry density and water content are, the less the magnitude of moisture transfer is, which shows that it is beneficial for subgrade to be compacted under a wetting condition.
