Effect of Stress on Carbon Dioxide Sorption Behavior in Coal for CO2 Seouestration
Existing research results show that the coal bed methane reservoir is particularly sensitive to the stress. This paper systematically studied the change law of fracture width and permeability as stress variation through laboratory experiments. The results showed that fracture width and permeability continuously decreased in the process of increasing effective stress;fracture width and permeability changed very slowly when stress reached to 8MPa. Thus, fracture and permeability of coal bed was very sensitive to stress. CO2 sorption experiment is conducted with volumetric method under the effective stress. Compared with powder sample, the existence of effective stress makes coal adsorptive capability reduction, however the adsorption equilibrium time increase greatly. Because of the coal pore structure and permeability changed, diffusion controls the gas adsorption behavior under stress condition. The experimental result indicates that the application of natural coal sample under in-situ condition can get a better stimulation and forecast to the reservoir.
