Distribution of Cadmium in Blood and Organs of Mice Exposed to Cadmium -Contaminated Drinking Water
Cd levels in blood, liver, lung, kidney, heart and brain of male mice were measured after exposure to Cd as cadmium nitrate solution (0.1 mg/mL) using flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The resultant data showed that 90% of the cadmium in blood was accumulated in the red blood cells. For other target organs, the accumulation of cadmium decreased in the order kidney, liver, spleen, heart, lung and brain. The accumulation of cadmium in the brain gradually increased with increasing cadmium exposure while the accumulation of cadmium in the other target organs reached a balance after 15-20 days.
