Performance Assessment of Solar PV in China

With ascending concern on climate change and environment protection, renewable energy is paid more and more attention in recent years. As a main renewable energy technology, photovoltaic (PV) has become commercially available, now. However, we have exactly known what benefit PV system can bring to us. In this paper, the author assesses the performance of solar PV system in China, by the methodology of life cycle assessment (LCA). The assessment results can be summarized as two roles: (1) the EPBT of solar PV in China is about 4years;(2) the GHGs emissions of China’s solar PV in life cycle are 54g CO2/kwh. From the results, we can know that solar PV is an effective renewable energy technology for energy saving and GHG abatement, in China.
