Convergence in Commodity Consumption in Urban China: Through Panel Data Analysis

摘要：

Consumption Pattern of convergence has great significance for the development of consumer policy. Based on the analysis of urban residents’seven consumption level of major types of commodity in China’s provinces during 1997-2007 years, this paper sets up consumer panel data model of convergence, and through the panel regression analysis, conducts an empirical study on the phenomenon of consumption convergence. The results shows that the consumption of seven major types of commodity are for the existence of conditional convergence, in which income pulling effect on clothing consumption has a decreased trend;the speed of convergence between education, culture, entertainment and housing consumption is very fast;inequality of income distribution, and the obstructed flow of information between regions will increase the regional consumption gap.
