Pt-MgZnCu/Al hydrotalcite-derived catalysts in the reduction of nitrates. Effects of basicity, Pt state and Cu incorporation mode

Introduction: Diffuse pollution of water resources is a major environmental issue and catalytic denitrification is an efficient solution, nitrate ions being reduced using hydrogen over bimetallic catalyst 1. Hydrotalcites (HT) are suitable precursors of these catalysts 2, 3. The main governing properties are the nature of the support and the surface state of the metals related with the preparation procedure 4. In this work parameters affecting the catalytic activity and selectivity of MgZnCu/Al HTs impregnated with Pt have been examined. The effects of the basicity and of the protocol of incorporation of the metals have been studied by physico-chemical characterizations and evaluated in the reaction.
