Catalytic Tar Removal from Biosynthesis Gas: Catalyst development and kinetic studies

Introduction Looking at the current climate problems, the production of synthesis gas (CO/H2) based on biomass is one of the promising subjects of sustainable technologies. However, this so called biosyngas contains several byproducts. Some of them, e.g. salts and tar, must be removed before further processing in synthesis like methanol or Fischer-Tropsch 1. From a technical and economical point of view the catalytic oxidation of the tar compounds to CO2 seems to be a promising approach 2.
